Competition

With all the excitement of the pep ralley on friday, teachers in cheerleading outfits, mothers kissing their sons, who wouldn't be excited for the football game!! We were all so pumped to win! My questions for this blog started to form when I got home from school and my mom told me that unfortunatley there was a family get together that night in Salt Lake and my Dad really wanted all of us to go. Why did the game seem so important to me that I wanted to cry when I realized I had to go spend time with my family instead of watching a football game!? Why do games get so competitive that players and fans will beat up the mascot from the other team, beat up cars with the other teams name on it, burn our team symbol into the other teams field? Why do we paint our faces and dress up in ridiculous outfits supporting our school with its colors? I personally LOVE to go to games! They are always SO exciting, and even for spectators we can feel like we are part of the team during the game! That's when I realized the answer to all my questions. When we go to games, it gives us something to have faith in, we can forget about who we are as we dress up as a mascot for the team we love! We have so much pride in our school that sometimes we feel like we have to stand up for it! We are willing to fight (literally) for our team. The thing I learned on Friday, and that everyone has to realize for themselves is that we have to decide where to draw the line. When are we having fun supporting our team, and when are we trying to protect the pride of our school like we would protect our lives?
