accidents

It seems like in this past week so many people have been involved with accidents. I have a friend that got hit by a car on Friday, a friend that got a concussion in a soccer game Thursday, a car accident today, and a friend that cut her finger off while working on an after school project for jewelry. Am I just bad luck?! Well of course that's true and part of the problem) but another reason could be that people are in too much of a hurry these days. Looking back, each situation could have been different if the person would have been paying more attention to what is going on around them. I realize accidents happen, but I feel like sometimes there is something we can do. Instead of being in such a hurry to get back to school on time, a student could leave earlier and prevent backing up into another car.

driving smart

Yesterday a friend of mine called and informed me that another friend of ours had gotten in a car accident the night before. He started to tell me the details of the accident, and before I knew it we were analyzing the whole situation. We wondered what happened that night as she was going home that she could have changed. He wondered if there was anything he could have done throughout the night to change what happened to her. The biggest thing we analyzed and talked about was driving. This friend of mine is a little bit of a crazy driver. The friend in the accident was hit by a few boys racing on state street, when my friend told me this he was sad about it because he's been a part of "street racing" before. Because of the accident, he was nervous to even drive to work now. He was nervous because he had just realized that even if he drives the best he can, other drivers can still mess up, and we could be involved in the consequences of their choice. After talking we knew there was nothing we could have done about the accident, the only thing we can do now is change some things in the way we drive to make sure that it doesn't happen to us.

All Day I Dream About Soccer

On Thursday I went to a soccer game that a few of my friends were playing in, and it was an amazing game! I knew I couldn't sit there thinking it was amazing without analyzing why. Right when I sat down on the side of the field I could already feel the intensity of the game. This was one of the state cup semi-final games and this game would tell who could go on. Feeling this intensity, the spectators had to do everything they could to help the players. This of course meant we could scream and yell and cheer them on, and that's about it! Even though it was something small we were doing to help the players, it made us feel like we were part of the team. Another the reason the game was so amazing is that the players were making awesome plays. In about the third minute of the game, our team had already scored. This gave us the hope early in the game that our team could play better than the other team. The game was never boring. Throughout the whole game, the players had their spectators "on the edge of our seats."

The Devil Wears Prada

I went to see The Devil Wears Prada with my mom and sisters a while back and LOVED it! It was when I went the second time that I started questioning the messege it sends. Does it really matter what size clothing you wear? In this movie, it's the only thing that does matter, other than the brand name you are wearing. This movie says your inner beauty doesn't matter anymore. Andy, the main character in the movie, is a new worker at Runway (a fashion magazing) and is confused with why everyone there is obsessed with how they look. It was disgusting to a co-worker that she is a size 6. (Which by the way isn't even close to being considered a large size!) It was disgusting because that isn't the "in" size. Andy told herself that she wouldn't be working at the magazine forever, why change?! A "friend" at the magazine informed her that if she didn't change, she wouldn't fit it. In the end Andy realized it doesn't matter what you look like, and what size of clothing you wear. The media believes this is the most important thing in life, but she realized it wasn't even close.

traveling...

This afternoon my family and i were looking at pictures from a trip we recently took. It was then that i started to think about how much i love to travel!! I've been on an airplane 11 times in the past year but I'm still so anxious until my next trip! So i started to think about why I love traveling so much, why I get so anxious. Every time I go on a trip, I get to go shopping! Shopping as I prepare for the trip, then also shopping on the trip, and I LOVE shopping! When I'm planning for a trip it gives me something to look forward to, and to get excited about! I can get excited for a new adventure, to learn new things, to learn about a new culture! I can get excited to meet new and different people! Just talking about traveling right now is making me want to!
